Basic white cake
This recipe is very similar to the recipe of the basic yellow cake; in fact with only a slight variation, you can prepare both these cakes with same recipe.
- 2 1/3 cups of flour
- 3 eggs white
- 1 tablespoon levelled baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 1/2 cups of white sugar
- 1 cup of milk at room temperature
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Start by preparing the tin and the oven. Now sift together the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. This step aids in making the cake lighter and fluffier. Add the shortening and beat on low speed until the mixture appears crumbly. Now add in the egg whites, vanilla and milk and beat. Pour the batter in a 9×11 inch pan or in a circular pan having a diameter of 9 inch. Bake at 175°C or 350°F for about 20-25 minutes. Check for doneness before taking out.
